Athletics and Cricket

The Academy’s Girls Athletics team travelled to Chisipite Senior School to take part in an invitational meet on 4th February 2022. This was the first inter-schools competition in almost three years. The athletes were in good spirits and were ready to make their mark. The girls were very competitive in all their events until, sadly, a thunderstorm brought the event to a premature end. Our total points when the meet was suspended would have placed us second out of the six competing schools. Well done to the following athletes who came first in their events: Mikayla Makwabarara, Anneka Colegrave, Sarah Forrester, Jessica Hutchings, Sophia Savo, Giovanna Jones, and Susie Worsfold.

Our Cricket 1st Team showed bravery and skill on Saturday, 5 th March when they played Peterhouse. Joshua Martell was the anchor batsman, with outstanding contributions from Matthew Schonken, Matthew Landman and Michael Westhoff. Vice Captain, Benjamin Banks, produced an excellent spell of bowling. He was supported brilliantly, by Matthew Schonken, Ronak Patel, John-Mark Benadie, Joshua Martell and Luke van Zyl. It was a close match with Peterhouse winning by 1 wicket. A thoroughly enjoyable spectator event for our parents.
